Buddhism is a form of education as taught by Shakyamuni Buddha, we refer to Shakyamuni Buddha as our Original Teacher, we all are his students, our relationship is only between a teacher and student.

The meaning of his name is very profound, “ Shakya” means non-discriminating, loving-kindness that helps release all living beings from all forms of pains and sufferings so they may reach for happiness: that is the virtue of mercy. “Muni” means stillness and purity: this is the virtue of wisdom.

Buddhism is an educational, to educate people to learn how to achieve wisdom, and observation of the Law of Cause & Effect wherein goodness begets goodness, evil begets evil. Buddha outlined to people the six universal truths: Nature, Forms, Reasons, Matters, Causes and Effects.

The Buddhist sutras tell us that if we want to know what we have done in our previous life, we need only to look at what we are experiencing today, if we want to know what will happen to us in our next life, we need only to look at what have done in this lifetime. The Law of Cause & Effect passes through our previous life, present life and future life.

The foundation of Buddhist teachings can be summarized in filial piety and respect for one’s teachers. These practices are again based on the teachings of Di Zi Gui (Standards for Being A Good Student and Child)

Whenever the name of “Shakyamuni” is mentioned, we are being reminded that we should stay pure and uncontaminated, and that we should treat others with non-discriminating loving-kindness. This is the fundamental inspiration of his education. Shykyamuni Buddha taught for 49 years and gave more 300 lectures during his lifetime. He was a benevolent multicultural social educationist and voluntarily social worker.

If we trace back, we find that Confucian teaching are derived from the teachings of the ancient Chinese Saint Yao Shun more than 5,000 years ago. Buddhism is another great influence on Chinese people. Buddhism spread to China from India in 67 AD during the Han Dynasty of China. The foundation of Buddhist teachings is to abstain from doing all evil, to do all that is good, and to purify one’s own mind. The Buddhist sutra and scriptures advocate duties to parents, respect for and service to one’s teachers and elders, and the cultivation of the Ten Good Conducts.

The Ten Good Conducts are: no killing, no stealing, no sexual misconduct, no lying, no abusive language, no bearing tales, no seductive words, no greed, no anger, and no ignorance.
